As a bank, we have a special responsibility

As a bank, we are the engines of individual and collective growth, helping individuals, communities and countries deliver on their potential. In line with our ambition to be the bank for Europe’s future and our purpose Empowering Communities to Progress.

Sustainable finance for a sustainable world

We believe that creating added value means more than just creating financial value. We have made it our mission to operate sustainably and to promote the well-being of every individual. After all, as a bank, we play a key role in ecological transformation - This is where our sustainable finance approach comes into its own.

Social-impact banking for a fair world

Social-impact banking represents our commitment to a fair and inclusive society. We identify, fund, and support businesses and organisations that invest in projects with a positive social impact. We want to be the impetus and supporter of change processes that improve our society.

Our values guide our actions

Our Values are more than just words. They are Actions. Mandates. Pledges. When we all commit to these shared values, we will deliver for our clients. And delivering for our clients - in any way, large or small - is how we fulfil our Purpose.

We act in the best interests of our customers and our communities. We are honest, straightforward and transparent. We do the right thing - even when no one is watching.

We deliver on our promises and take accountability for our actions and commitments. We are empowered to make decisions and learn from failure. We speak up - to express an idea, an opinion, or when we see something wrong.

We care about our customers, communities and each other. We are eager to help one another and for our people to thrive. We treat each other with respect and value our differences.

How we work together

Be empowered for impact

We believe that motivation and success are based on people feeling empowered - True impact can only be achieved where trust and freedom exist.

Seek to improve

We question the status quo, want to continually improve and thus shape the future of banking together.

Listen and speak up

We want to grow through constructive feedback and learn from mistakes. In doing so, we feel confident and safe to express our views.

Engage personally

Not only do we get our work done, we experience it together - as a true team always as equals across hierarchies, #CallMeByMyFirstName.

Enjoy flexibility

We know that life is about more than just work. Therefore, being flexible in terms of where and when we work is just as important to us as personal exchanges.

Think European

We combine regional identity with an international perspective, offering exciting career opportunities across Europe and beyond.

How we live diversity, equity & inclusion

Our most valuable asset is having a strong team, which includes all of its unique talents and capabilities. We therefore provide equal possibilities for all of colleagues. After all, only if we actively practice diversity, equity and inclusion, we can thrive together.

Gender

Careers must not depend on one’s gender. This is why we are proud to be the only European bank to have achieved EDGE-certification - an award that underlines our commitment to gender and intersectional justice. But our commitment goes far beyond certifications: We are active advocates for gender equality and live it every day. From leadership tandems - an initiative from our gender-diversity programme - to gender-equitable and inclusive language, because language creates reality for us. Our diversity sponsors work with us to bring diversity into all areas of the bank.

Age

Different generations work together at our bank. The combination of fresh perspectives and many years of experience enriches us in our daily work. We believe that equal care means taking into account our employees’ different needs and life situations - from childcare to social events and care services. In doing so, we not only take care of all our employees to the same extent, but also enable them to unlock their full potential. We have developed our generation tandems to strengthen communication and understanding between the generations.

Sexual orientation

We are a colourful, cosmopolitan and global working community. That is why we are committed to the ‘come-as-you-are’ principle - in every respect. We are convinced that when you feel comfortable and accepted, and can be completely yourself without pretending or hiding, you can unlock your true potential, and thus that of the entire bank. For this reason, we established our ‘UniCorns’ in 2014, a community of LGBTQIA+ colleagues and allies with the aim of creating a corporate culture in which all employees are valued, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Ethnicity and nationality

As part of the pan-European UniCredit Group, cultural and national diversity are a natural part of our DNA. We work across national borders and cultural boundaries to achieve a common Purpose: Empowering Communities to Progress. Within HypoVereinsbank alone, more than 80 different nationalities and cultural identities enrich our working relationship. This creates a diversity that not only promotes open-minded thinking and respectful and tolerant interaction, but also offers new perspectives and solutions through different cultural experiences and languages.

Physical & mental abilities

In accordance with our Purpose of Empowering Communities to Progress, inclusion and participation guide all that we do. Since 2020, we have been part of the ‘Valuable 500’, a global movement dedicated to putting disability on the corporate agenda. It is our goal to create a society in which people with and without disabilities simply work together barrier-free, employing their individual skills and talents and thus inspire each other. And true participation only works if all people are considered from the very start. For this reason, our job portal is completely accessible.

How we live sustainability

In line with our ambition to be the band for Europe’s future, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations are a core part of our cultur and mindset. Sustainablity guides and informs every decision we make and all the actions we take. Only this way, we can fulfil our Purpose of Empowering Communities to Progress.

Sustainable locations

Our workplace also meets the requirements of a sustainable business strategy: The HVB Tower, our headquarters, is an energy-efficient green building. On completion of its renovation, it was awarded the ‘LEED Platinum’ certification in early 2016. Beyond that, 100% of the electricity used at our other locations in Germany is entirely generated from renewable sources.

Commitment to Net Zero by 2030

In line with our commitment to a climate-friendly future, we are a member of the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA). As part of this alliance, initiated by the United Nations, we have committed to being a Net Zero company in terms of our own emissions by 2030 and our financed emissions by 2050 or earlier.

Plastic-free bank

As of January 2023, we dispensed with single-use plastic at all UniCredit Group locations, making us a plastic-free bank. We have removed single-use plastic from more than 1,100 snack machines, 300 drinks vending machines and 60 canteens and cafeterias worldwide, saving >12 million plastic bottles every year. This shows how small changes make a big difference.

Can I work remotely?

Of course! We strongly believe in the benefits of a hybrid-working environment - One that combines flexibility and personal interaction.

That is why we not only offer you the opportunity, depending on your role, to work up to three days a week from home or any other location in Germany, but also the chance to work temporarily from another EU country.

If you would like to work remotely for a longer period of time, you can, after consultation with your manager, accumulate days of remote work over a period of up to three months and then take them all at once.

Do I have to wear a suit to the bank every day?

Sneakers and banking don’t go together? With us, they do!

We promote a culture of diversity and respect individuality in all areas - including our dress code. So feel free to come to the bank as you feel comfortable. We  have no fixed rules about how our employees should look. That said, it is generally a good idea to wear a classic business outfit or business-casual clothing to deal with customers.

What is Pre-Employment Screening?

At HypoVereinsbank, we believe in transparency. That is why we would like to inform you about our mandatory pre-employment screening.

Pre-employment screening is the verification of relevant information provided by an external applicant as part of the application process. The verification is carried out by the responsible employee (m/f/d) in HR in cooperation with our partner SIGNUM-CONSULTING. The process is carried out in compliance with all national and international data-protection guidelines and requires the candidate’s consent in advance.

What does Pre-Employment Screening involve?

It includes, among other things, the verification of the highest education qualification as well as the individual stations of the candidate’s career to date.

At what job levels is a Pre-Employment Screening done?

Basically, we conduct a type of pre-employment screening at every job level. However, our service provider Signum Consulting is only called-in for trainees, professionals and management positions.

How is my consent to Pre-Employment Screening obtained?

The responsible HR employee will discuss the individual steps in the Pre-Employment Screening with you as part of the application process and obtain your consent via a written statement.
