For a long time now, employers have been advocating reduction of the time required to earn a degree in Germany. The new "Bachelor" and "Master" degrees introduced in 1999 in addition to the "Diplom" now make this possible. A "Bachelor" can be acquired after six semesters. This is Germany's contribution to the "Bologna process" which will make courses of study comparable throughout Europe by 2010.
Amazingly enough, by no means all companies in Germany understand what these new, internatonally accepted degrees are all about. Many employers still insist on graduates with "Diplom" degrees. HypoVereinsbank has taken a closer look at the new degrees and explicitly invites candidates from the by now almost 1,800 new courses of study to apply for a trainee program - preferably in the Germany business segment: "Bachelors welcome!"
